AT&T In-App Messaging API supports emojiThumbs up! According to emogi Research Group, an estimated 2.3 trillion mobile messages containing emoji’s were sent in 2016. Now, we are happy to announce that the AT&T In-App Messaging API supports the use of emojis! Here’s what you need to know about the new functionality, and how to use it.

With just a few simple steps, you will be all smiles – emoji smiles, that is:

  • Use the JSON format of the AT&T In-App Messaging API (XML does not support emojis)
  • Convert the emoji to the correct emoji UTF8 encoding. As an example, for the smiley face it’s: \xF0\x9F\x98\x8A. Here is a link to the full list of codes

Note: Native messaging clients will convert emoji’s to the appropriate UTF8 encoding automatically.
